Games Management Team Athletes, Guilford/High Point

The 2007 Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Games will be a historic event! For the first time in SONC history, every venue will have a Special Olympics athlete serving in a volunteer capacity as a member of the Games Management Team. Seven Guilford/High Point athletes have been attending GMT meetings for the last several months along with other community members who have committed to being volunteer leaders and help prepare for the state-level event to be held in High Point on Nov 9-11. Each athlete has been assigned a venue and will report to the volunteer venue director during the weekend to receive their job assignments. The athletes will help with volunteer check-in, lunch distribution, distributing event programs and map guides, serving as an escort and more.

“I am so proud that this Games Management Team has stepped up and is setting a new standard in Special Olympics,” said Sherry Paul, volunteer games director. “The athletes are very excited and eager to help in this capacity.”

The following athletes are Games Management Team members for the 2007 SONC Fall Games:
Dennis Cross - Roller skating
Joey Vitello - Soccer
Ken Mileski - Bocce
Bill Thomas - Golf
Taylor George - Cycling
Kim Smith - Dance and Olympics Town
Amy Urwick - Presidents Dinner & Opening Ceremonies

The athletes will be easily identified at the venues, each athlete will be wearing a teal volunteer T-shirt with the title “Athlete Representative” on the back. Please be sure to thank these athletes for their work on the GMT and commend them on the jobs they perform throughout the event weekend!
