Every four years the United States holds a national competition for athletes across the country. The inaugural National Games were held in Iowa in 2006 and the most recent were held in 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The highlights, photos and newsletters can be viewed below.
The next National Games will be held in 2014 in Princeton, New Jersey.
Special Olympics North Carolina uses the advancement criteria set forth by Special Olympics, Inc. to select the athletes who will be a part of Team N.C.. Gold medal winners from all ability level divisions are put into a random drawing in order to be selected for participation in the Games.
Team NC Results
• Special Olympics Team North Carolina had 50 athletes and 14 coaches participating in eight sports: aquatics, athletics (track and field), basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, powerlifting and tennis.
• Twenty-nine SONC local programs sent athletes and coaches to the Special Olympics USA National Games.
• Team NC brought home an impressive 69 medals in individual and team competition!
