Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship Course

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) developed a complimentary course to give you a better understanding of sportsmanship and how it impacts your specific role in modeling it at all practices and competitions. Insight is shared throughout the course from fans, players, parents, coaches and officials.
The free course takes about 15 minutes to complete and can be found in the NFSH website. This is an extra resource for local programs and coaches, but it is not currently a part of SONC's certification process. Once the course is complete, each coach will receive a certificate. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Stamm.

Cheerleading

Meet Cheerleading Athlete Sara Davis!

SONC first offered Cheerleading in 2006. With its addition it became the 19th sport offered to local programs by SONC.

Events Offered

Individual Performance competition is available for athletes just starting out in cheerleading, or for programs without adequate numbers to form a team. Athletes will perform a cheer or chant while using specific skills to demonstrate their proficiency in cheering.

Team Competition is offered in the traditional and Unified Sports models at three different levels. Criteria and restrictions for each level are found within the SONC Cheerleading Rules. Beginner team competition focuses on basic chants and motions. Intermediate team competition builds on the beginner level by introducing formation change and more intricate cheers.  The advanced level is the highest level offered by SONC, and combines all the requirements of the other levels and sets the routine to music (similar to a high-school competitive cheerleading routine).

Sport Development Team

We are currently recruting volunteers to serve on the Cheerleading SDT. These volunteers advise SONC staff regarding sport rule modifications, competition and also train coaches in their sport! For more information on the cheerleading sport development team, contact Andrea Stamm, SONC staff liaison.

Certified Clinicians

In addition to the sport development team, these volunteers are able to conduct local sport specific training schools on behalf of SONC. Contact the clinician in your area if you would like to schedule a training (their county of residence is located under their name). For more information on becoming a certified clinician, contact Andrea Stamm.
