SONC began offering gymnastics competition in 1979. Recent competition has featured artistic gymnastics; rhythmic gymnastics events are not currently offered but programs may contact the sport development team or SONC staff liaison if interested in starting rhythmic gymnastics. The state-level competition is offered as a part of the SONC Summer Games and it has been opened up to other states as a U.S. Southeast region event.

Events OfferedCompetition is offered in three categories:
Athletes may compete in all events offered (All Around) or may be Specialists, competing in one, two, or more events (but not all events). Competition OpportunitiesDivisional qualifiers are offered for gymnastics in April. Participation in a qualifier is mandatory for an athlete to be eligible for state-level competition. SONC Summer Games is the state-level competition featuring six sports and takes place in Raleigh the first weekend of June. |
