Participants to rappel off 32-story Wells Fargo Capitol Centre Building in Raleigh
Raleigh, NC – Several local companies have teamed up with Special Olympics North Carolina to host the third annual Over the Edge fundraiser to be held in downtown Raleigh on Oct. 6, 2012. Over the Edge is a fundraiser that allows participants who raise a minimum of $1,000 to rappel down Wells Fargo Capitol Center in support Special Olympics initiatives throughout North Carolina. Participants can register at www.overtheedgenc.com.
A Small Miracle Inc.; Café Carolina & Bakery, RPG Solutions, Spectrum Properties, LORD Corporation, Sport Clips, Carolina Rollergirls and Shoreline Productions have partnered with Special Olympics to recruit 120 people to sign on for the Oct. 6 event.
Café Carolina & Bakery will raise funds for Special Olympics North Carolina through their “A Sweet Way to Help” promotion where customers will receive an over-sized fresh baked cookie for a $1 donation during the month of September. Café Carolina and Bakery is owned and operated by Boddie-Noell Enterprises. Boddie-Noell has been a long time supporter of Special Olympics and the cause is especially close to the heart of the Café Carolina and Bakery team as there is at least one individual with intellectual disabilities working in every store and most are Special Olympics athletes.
In addition to the financial support, Café Carolina also will open their Wells Fargo Capitol Center store on Oct. 6 to cater to event guests. The Wells Fargo building store served as base camp for the Over the Edge event. In addition to providing meals to rappellers and volunteers the store, normally only open Monday through Friday, will open for business to all spectators and provide a place to watch the live video streaming of the event provided by Shoreline Productions. The store will also donate all sales of bakery items on event day to Special Olympics NC. Café Carolina will also provide food and beverages at the Over the Edge – Charlotte event on Oct. 13.
Sport Clips clients who purchase Sport Clips’ signature haircut service, the MVP Experience, will have the opportunity to enter to win one of four “Over the Edge” rappels. Two winners will participate Oct. 6 in Raleigh and two will participate Oct 13 in Charlotte. All 33 Sport Clips locations across North Carolina will participate. MVP clients will be entered in the contest Sept. 3 – 29.
Special Olympics North Carolina has an exclusive license to host the event with Over the Edge USA, which has operated hundreds of events throughout North America for eight years, raising millions of dollars for charities.
“We are very appreciative of our partners support of the Over the Edge fundraiser for Special Olympics,” said Keith L. Fishburne, president/CEO of Special Olympics North Carolina. “Their support and the community’s enthusiasm for this unique event will make for a fun and memorable experience for all involved.”
Encourage people have registered or expressed strong interest in rappelling. People and organizations can band together to raise the $1,000 minimum donation required by participants. Participants who raise $2,000 or more will get their rappel featured in a customized video of the event courtesy of Shoreline Productions. The event also includes a category for willing company supervisors to be in the ‘Toss Your Boss’ challenge for the cause.
