What’s New This Year?
We are very excited to return to Johnston County. The gyms that will be used for the event are located in Kenly, Micro, Selma and Smithfield. The longest driving distance is twenty minutes so they are all very conveniently located near each other.
We have changed a few things with venues. North Johnston High School will be used for 5-on-5 team competition this year (it was 3-on-3 last year) and 3-on-3 team competition will be held at Smithfield Selma High School and Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center; these are located right next to each other.
Healthy Athletes screenings will be offered at the eastern tournament this year. This is a great opportunity for athletes to get screenings and education at no cost that they may not receive otherwise.
- At individual skills, Health Promotions will provide education and games on healthy lifestyle choices and screening such as bone density 12:30-3:30pm.
- At Smithfield Selma High School, FitFeet will conduct screening and advising athletes on proper footware 11:00am-3:00pm.
Souvenirs and concessions will be sold at all venues. The most extensive selection of souvenirs will be available at Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center but limited souvenirs will be available at all location.

Coaches Meetings
We have made attendance by at least one coach or representative from each local program at the coaches meeting mandatory. Valuable information and updates are provided during these meetings. If the coach or a representative from the local program does not attend, that program is subject to penalty, including losing the ability to protest for the duration of the tournament. Awarding for Basketball Team Divisions
Awarding in a three team division:
The overall record will determine which place a team is awarded. If a team has a 2-0 record they will receive the gold medal, a 1-1 record will receive the silver medal and a 0-2 record will receive the bronze medal.
If all three teams finish with a 1-1- record the following tie breakers will be instituted:
- The team who has allowed the fewest points will be awarded the gold medal, the second fewest points the silver medal, and the team that allowed the most points will win the bronze medal.
- If there is a tie in the most points allowed, the head to head game will be used to break the tie.
Example:
Team Record Points Allowed
A 1-1 45
B 1-1 54
C 1-1 31
Team C will be given the gold medal, Team A Receives the silver medal, and Team B receives the bronze medal.
Awarding in a four team division:
Four team divisions will play in brackets. The winners of the first game will advance and play for the gold medal. The teams who lose their first game will play each other for the bronze medal.
Recycling
We are continuing to work on better recycling water bottles at lunch time. Please help remind all members of your delegation to be conscientious about disposing of these bottles in the right container.
Volunteers
We have a fantastic group of Games Management Team volunteers who have stepped up to run this Tournament. They will be supported by hundreds of day-of volunteers. Please know that they are there to help you and let them know how much they are appreciated.

Thank you for all the hard work you and all the coaching staff have already put into this basketball season not to mention the hours of training the athletes have gone through. We look forward to hosting the athletes at the state-level event and ensure that it is a great experience for all involved. We will send out an online survey at the conclusion of the Tournament to find out just how good you times were! Feedback is always appreciated so we can continue to improve on events.
